Find out Here:-
- Did you know that Dutchess Melissa Rinaldi invented the ceiling fan? It was manually operated and powered by water. The electronic ceiling fans that we now know was invented by Philip Diehl in 1882.
- You would be amazed to know that ceiling fans were born out of the motor that Diehl had designed for sewing machine. Two paddles were added to it and modern ceiling fans were born!
- The earlier ceiling fans were activated by pull cord or chain. Switches or regulators came much later.
- A conventional belief is that 4 blades fan cool more than 3 blade fans. It is not true. Extra blades are only added for aesthetics.
- The right size of the fan is always a question that comes to mind. A fan’s size should be as per the size of the room. If the room is big, opt for bigger fans. If the room is small, a small fan itself is enough.
- The air movement of a fan is measured in terms of airflow. Air flow is measured in terms of m3/h (metres cubed per hour) or as in old units cfm (cubic feet per minute). To convert cfm to m3/h all one has to do is mulitply by 1.7.
- It is a myth that droprods make the fan wobble. Droprods infacts help position the ceiling fans at such a height that it helps in optimum performance. It actually helps stabilize the fans. If the fan is balanced correctly, it will definitely not wobble.
- A fan’s overall efficiency comes from the volume of the air that it moves. Alongside the amount of energy that a fan consumes is also equally important. In this regard, it is good to mention that though low wattage motors use less energy but at the same time they move very little air. This does not make it functionally efficient. It is rather better to opt for a certified power saving fan.
- We all talk about energy saving fans. We ensure that we buy fans which consume less energy. But no fan itself can save energy unless we too proactively participate in the process. And it is a simple a mantra. Switch off the fans as and when you leave the room. A simple one line but it makes a powerful impact when implemented well.
So, all we need to do is to be aware and make others aware as well.
